During your session, you'll get to watch me assess all aspects of a drawing you are currently working on, and demonstrate the steps you'll need to correct any issues you may be having. You could also use this time to get my advice on how to proceed with a brand new drawing.
This is basically the same format I have been using for my one-on-one critiques in my live drawing workshops for over 20 years. Except this way, you get to do it from your own home and get to watch as I give gentle, encouraging advice to a few other students.

Many previous students have told me that the personal critique portion of my Live Workshops were invaluable. Here are some recent comments:
"What I found most helpful was the individual critique of my artwork. I knew it was lacking, but didn't know what to do to make my drawings look more dimensional. I now have the knowledge and tools to make my work so much better. The class was a fantastic experience for me and it is just what I needed to take my drawing to the next level."
Cathy, South Jordan, UT
"The general instruction was so thorough, then, the one-on-one was so helpful for my particular challenges. I have worked with pencil before but never given the techniques to make the pencils work so well-for contrast, for blending for texture, etc."
B. C., Dallas, TX
"In his easy manner, J. D. Hillberry excels in the quiet sharing of his knowledge and attention to the individual."
L. A., Los Angles, CA
"I appreciated that you critiqued everyone equally. Sometimes instructors focus more on the more "talented" participants,. Your comments were also very specific, which is extremely helpful."

Maintaining a Good Attitude
Drawing is an ongoing process of making mistakes, identifying them and making corrections. I believe a crucial step in improving your drawing is being able to identify the most important issues with the artwork. Many artists delay their progress by focusing on the wrong things.
Another issue can be ego. Generally, people don't like reveal their mistakes to anyone. If you embrace the fact that mistakes are part of the process in all art, you'll begin to see your work objectively and that is when real growth as an artist begins.
